About us

One of the leading centres in the UK

Barts and The London Skin Centre is based at The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, with some treatment for skin cancer provided at the renowned St Bartholomew’s Hospital (known as Barts), in the City of London near St Paul’s Cathedral. We also provide a service at Newham General Hospital. We are the second largest dermatology department in London, offering treatments for skin diseases including skin cancer.

We treat NHS patients from Tower Hamlets, the City of London, Essex and Southend.

Warm welcome

We recognise that patients receiving treatment for skin diseases require special attention before, during and after their treatment. Our team of experts is dedicated to helping you through this time and providing the best care to suit your individual needs.

Leading specialists

Our centre is in the privileged position of being able to use a wide range of expertise which benefits all our patients. Many of our consultant dermatologists are both nationally and internationally recognised experts in their field.

They are supported by a multidisciplinary team consisting of nursing staff, clinical nurse specialists and a homeopath (who offers plant-derived treatment for warts). In addition, we are able to call on the services of other specialists as required and there are also close links with other dermatology departments in the North East Thames region.

All our team are committed to providing the highest possible standards of care.

Using research to develop cutting-edge treatments

As a large teaching and specialist hospital we conduct a wide variety of research to ensure that we provide the most advanced and successful treatments for our patients. Working closely with Barts and The London Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, our team of clinicians and scientists are at the forefront of research – investigating new therapies and novel approaches for the diagnosis, classification and treatment of a wide range of skin diseases.

Seamless service

We aim to ensure that patients are kept fully informed at each stage of their treatment. Critical to the quality of our service is teamwork; our patients experience a multidisciplinary and seamless approach – receiving medical treatment, high quality nursing care and counselling support if required.
