Barts and The London Sexual Health Centre >> Our performance
|
Fast access service Our range of walk-in clinics allows individuals the freedom to choose the day and time when they want to visit us. Most people who walk-in to our clinics with symptoms are seen, screened and treated within 3 hours; those who are symptom-free can expect to be seen and screened within 1 hour. This easy and fast access service is in place thanks to our skilled multidisciplinary team, who provide a coordinated package of care to ensure that our patients experience a smooth and seamless journey through the clinics. Our performance against 48 hour waiting times – that’s from the moment an individual decides to visit us through to receiving treatment – is one of the best in the UK (see Health Protection Agency's national audit). Our approach is so successful it has helped reduce the time patients spend in our clinic by as much as 30% and led to an increase in our opening times. Last year, a government advisory group singled out our centre as providing the best practice and our service forms a ‘blue print’ for neighbouring sexual health centres.
With sexually transmitted infections still on the increase, our service is invaluable for many people in and around London. Each year we offer advice to and treat around 58,000 people. As such, we are one of the largest providers of sexual health services providing advice and care for people who live or commute to the capital.

We see and treat approximately 40,000 patients a year at the Ambrose King Centre at The Royal London Hospital and around 18,000 a year at Barts. In a recent patient satisfaction survey comprising 285 patients, a majority of patients said they would attend the clinic again and viewed the staff as very helpful.
