We’re committed to supporting and encouraging tomorrow’s leaders in sports and exercise medicine and we provide a range of educational opportunities in first class academic and clinical environments. We offer the only intercalated BSc course in the country and the longest running MSc, now in its 26th year. This internationally renowned course is open to doctors and physiotherapists and leads to an MSc, Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate depending on the pathway chosen. The course is based on the philosophy of total care for the athlete and the promotion of exercise in the health of all. It is unique in the United Kingdom for the delivery of integrated academic and practical tuition.

Our graduates are excelling in the sports and exercise medicine field. At the 2000 Olympics in Athens, Greece, 14 graduates from the SEM service worked as medical officers for the Great Britain and other national Olympic teams. Graduates also hold pivotal positions in sports medicine in the UK. These include the NSMI medical advisor, the chief medical officer to the BOA, the medical advisor to the UK Sports Institute, the team doctors for England Men’s Rugby, England Women’s Rugby, GB Skating, Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, Tottenham FC, West Ham FC etc. Approximately one third of the doctors on the Olympic medical committee are graduates of this course. More recently, the medical aspects of the Olympic bid and the associated legacy, were successfully led by Mr Peter Hamlyn and two graduates of the course.

The courses are run by our own specialists in conjunction with Barts and The London, Queen Mary School of Medicine and Dentistry.
