Research

Barts and The London Rheumatology Centre has a longstanding commitment to high quality research into the causes and treatment of rheumatic diseases. It has a close working relationship with the Bone and Joint Research Unit at Barts and The London, Queen Mary School of Medicine and Dentistry. This allows scientists and clinical researchers to work in partnership.

Current research programs are focusing on early arthritis, causes of rheumatoid arthritis and related conditions (Professor Pitzalis) as well as novel forms of therapy (Professor Chernajovsky).  Research is also looking into the causes and treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (Professor Mageed) as well as mechanisms underlying pain in the rheumatic diseases and assessment of innovative models for treating pain in the community (Professor Kidd).
