Our support services

Stop smoking service

Pregnant women can have one-to-one or group counselling to help them give up smoking. We also provide help and advice on using nicotine replacement products. For more information call on freephone 0800 169 1943.

Encouraging breastfeeding

We enthusiastically encourage mothers to breastfeed. Breast feeding has been shown to be better for babies’ health. The initiative to support this has been funded by Children’s Centres in partnership with Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust. Our service includes six breastfeeding support workers (employed by Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust) and has the support of eight volunteer mothers, co-ordinated by the Barts and The London Volunteer Co-ordinator. Women are given breastfeeding support through antenatal and postnatal groups, telephone advice, home visits and support on the postnatal ward.

Physiotherapy

There is a specialist team of obstetric physiotherapists who offer treatment for pregnancy-related problems such as back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome (pain and aching, numbness or weakness in the fingers).

Advocacy / Interpreter Service

We have a Bengali and Somali Health Advocacy and Interpreting Service available for our expectant mothers during the daytime, weekday evenings and 9am-5pm at weekends. Outside of these hours support is still available and our staff will arrange this for you.

For details about our advocacy service, please call 0207 377 7280.
