Taking care
We’re passionate about making you better
And we’re not just talking about your heart. We want our patients to feel better about being in hospital and to feel supported when they leave. From the cleanliness of our wards to our follow-up care and support, we’re concentrating on making the whole experience as pleasant as we can.
We listen and respond
The only way to ensure we’re getting things right is by asking our patients what you want, listening to what you tell us and making things better. Recent survey and focus group feedback has highlighted where we’re getting things right and where we could improve our service. Acting on this feedback, such as offering a larger selection of Halal menu options for Muslim patients, helps us to continually improve.
You take control
We are committed to providing services and a range of opportunities to help you take control of your own health.
The Heart Failure clinic reduces the need for admission to hospital by helping patients to self-manage their conditions, through attending sessions with specialist nurses and pharmacists. Results from the clinics, which take place four times a week, show that most participants at the clinic see improvements to their symptoms and a have a better quality of life.
Another lifestyle programme on offer in partnership with the Healthy Lifestyles team at Tower Hamlets Council is a nine-week exercise course which supports patients after treatment. One particular programme is for local Bengali women, helping them to find out about lifestyle changes they can make to reduce the chances of further health problems. “We want to make sure that people feel supported when they leave hospital. Some women aren’t comfortable with the idea of going to a gym so we organise female-only sessions to help them feel more relaxed,” explains Judith Colley, Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse. As well as exercise experts, Judith and her team are on hand at the sessions to do initial health assessments and to offer support and advice.
