For parents

Our expertise in children’s eye services means that we fully understand and appreciate the support that your child needs during their treatment. Not only can we offer your child the best in medical treatments, but we will also ensure they are comfortable and supported when they come into hospital.

Referral and first appointments

All patients are seen within 11 weeks of the referral being made. Patients with urgent conditions are seen within a much shorter time frame. Patients seen in the accident and emergency department outside of normal clinic hours are reviewed in the clinic. For more details about visiting us, please click here.

Scans and tests

Occasionally some tests are required that cannot be performed in the clinic. The tests required may be conducted in another department at the Royal London Hospital or may be arranged at another hospital. In both cases the clinician will advise you on where the tests will be conducted and how you will be made aware of the appointment.

Operations

If your child’s treatment requires surgery and a stay in hospital, the timing of admission and discharge to hospital will depend on the treatment required. A member of the team will be in contact to inform you of the arrangements that have been made.

Follow-up care

All patients are reviewed by a member of the team, the date of which depends on the diagnosis.
