Guild of St Bartholomew's Hospital (League of Friends)

St Bartholomew's Hospital has its own League of Friends known as the Guild of St Bartholomew's Hospital. The Guild was founded in 1911 and is a registered charity and is affiliated to ATTEND (formerly the National Association of Hospital and Community Friends).

The full name of the Guild is The Guild of the Royal Hospital of St Bartholomew, registered charity number 251628.

The Guild is a voluntary organisation that supports the work of the hospital. It provides equipment and comforts for the benefit of patients and staff through the income raised by the work of volunteers.

The Guild always needs volunteers to work in the following areas:

  • Shop helper: in one of the Guild's three shops, helping customers and selling goods such as confectionery, drinks, toiletries, stationery, magazines, toiletries, stamps, souvenirs and second hand books.
  • Mobile trolley shops: carry drinks, confectionery, newspapers, toiletries and other items to the wards. This is a nice opportunity to visit wards and chat with patients.
  • Welcomers: meeting and greeting patients and visitors and directing them to the appropriate ward or department.
For more information about becoming a volunteer click here >> or contact the volunteer co-ordinator, Karen Potter

The Guild's funds are raised through the above activities as well as by:

On the 13 December 2007, a Celebration of Christmas in words and music with Covent Garden Singers from The Royal Opera House will be held in the historic Great Hall at Barts. For more information click here >>
