Patient stories

Frederick Cole was being treated for high blood pressure and had become particularly unwell and jaundiced.

One of the doctors in the warfarin clinic suggested that he see a liver specialist at the HPB Centre. An appointment was made quickly, and within days he was seen and diagnosed with a tumour of the gall bladder.

Surgery took place soon afterwards, with Frederick staying in hospital for just over a week, cared for by a team of specialists.

“My consultant, Mr Kocher, told me calmly and gently what was wrong and that I needed surgery. His kindness really put me at ease – I felt like I was a friend, not a patient," said Mr Cole.

"Overall, I cannot fault my experience at the hospital. Everyone, from the cleaners to the nurses and doctors were brilliant.”

Frederick is recovering well from his operation and has regular appointments at the HPB Centre to check on his progress.

"I have only one word to describe the staff and services at the hospital....fantastic," Frederick Cole, patient.
