At Barts and The London Cancer Centre we offer services dedicated to treating patients with cancer.
Our highly trained teams understand that patient care needs to be individualised, taking into account psychological and social needs, alongside the medical treatment. We are continually researching new treatments and the use of new technologies, ensuring that our patients receive the best and most up-to-date care.
We provide an integrated service to over one and a half million people in North East London - and further afield - ensuring they all have access to high quality, specialist cancer care. Surgery is conducted at all three hospitals within Barts and The London NHS Trust (The Royal London, Barts and The London Chest), while all oncology (medical treatment of cancer) is conducted at Barts.
Our departments work together with most other areas of our hospitals through the multi disciplinary teams (MDT). These teams are made up of oncologists (cancer doctors), surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, clinical nurse specialists, physio and occupational therapists, social workers and MDT coordinators/data managers.
Within the wider community, the centre works with the patient’s GP, District Nurse, Palliative Care Nurse, and local hospices; St Joseph’s, The Margaret Centre, and St Francis’s to provide continuing and holistic care for patients throughout their cancer journey.
Supportive care for the patient’s emotional and psychological well being is provided through counselling, massage, and art therapy, and in the future, a dedicated patient support centre. Please click here for details of our supporting services.
